(John) Terry's Story
Life
My Spouse
She was my buddies girlfriend when I was a Junior in High School.
My Kids
They are both great, wonderful, women.
My Job
Busy
Born in Ohio, I grew up in San Francisco. Went to Edison, Sunny Side, St Emyidius, Riordan, O'Connell (nights) and Mission (Summer). I was a member of the famous "Pitmen Car Club". I worked for my dad in construction from when I was a kid until I went into the Navy for active duty in 1966 (1 year in Da Nang, Viet Nam, and 1 year on the West Coast). Got married when I got out of the Navy and went back to school. When we were about to have a child, I started working swing shift as a journeyman machinist (IAM Local 68) while I continued my education. When I was offered a job (higher pay) as a journeyman electrician (IBEW Local 6) for Rifkin Electric, I took it. I applied for and received my building contractors license in March 1970, my plumbing license in '71, and my electric license in '78. Raced SCCA (road course) from 1972 until 1980 in a 1959 Austin-Healy Bug-Eye sprite. I bought a TRS-80 computer in 1979 to be able to do less paper work and spend more time racing. But, as you can see by the dates, that never happened. When I found that there were no job costing programs to do what I needed, I decided ...Expand for more
to write my own. In 1983 I formed Con-Soft (Contractors Software) and in 1985 we started selling "The Jobcoster" commercially (at about $1000 each). By 1989 we had close to 800 customers. In 1990 the economy and construction took a down turn, so I opened a computer store to hold me and my employees over until the economy picked up, and still be able to support my Con-Soft customers. Windows and networking became big but I could never afford to pay the 300 grand to convert it out of DOS and I was never able to finish the conversion on my own. So now I'm down to about 70 customers, but I am still slowly working on the conversion. I took a break from construction to work full time (110+ hours a week) from 1986 until 1997 when I all but went bankrupt. So now I'm back in construction, still own the computer store, and still support my Con-Soft customers. I also retired from the Navy Reserves (MRC) in 1996, after 33 years. Attended "Leadership Breakthrough One" by Rapport International in 1997, overcame some of my fears, embraced a lifelong dream and became a nudist. Made my Crusillo in 2001 and have been fully active in it ever since! Worked my 8th team as the "Palanca Dude" this September with 37 other wonderful people that I am proud to know and love.
